This new program has a budget of 6.5 million euros, will take place under the name Digital Future Society and is based on expanding knowledge on the impact of technology in the social field and “citizen empowerment” through the digital economy, according to information submitted by the Barcelona City Council –patron of the foundation.
The financing of this project will be shared by the different agents that make up the foundation’s Board of trustees, among which are-in addition to the local council, already mentioned-the Ministry of Economy and Enterprise and the Generalitat of Catalonia.
Secretary of State for the Digital Agenda, Francisco Polo, said the government has already committed two million to launch this initiative. “We are committed to helping as much as possible to keep the MWC in Barcelona,” he said. For its part, the foundation expects to contribute one million in own resources and will reach 6.5 million total through the entry of new corporate partners.
Generate and expand knowledge
According to the foundation’s forecasts, the forum will be held during 2019 although there is no official date yet. The director of MW Capital, Carlos Grau, this event will be unveiled at other fairs and Congresses that host the city of Barcelona and that are related to the most social aspect of technology, such as the Smart City Expo and the Internet Congress of things.
In addition to this forum, the programme will give impetus to an observatory that will study similar experiences on social technology in other countries or in international institutions. The idea is to act as a think tank on the subject. On the other hand, they plan to give a greater boost to Mobile Week to make this new technology known to society, even to take it to other cities.
